A Calm, Peaceful, Beautiful Night…FINALLY!
The wind and seas started to calm down yesterday. During the afternoon, the wind got very light, and we even ran our engine for a couple of hours due to lack of wind. In the early evening the wind came back up and we started sailing again.
It was a magnificent night, with star filled skies, a warm breeze and calm seas…YES!! I had the best sleep I have had in a while. We woke up to a gorgeous sunny morning. Still light wind but sailing at 5 to 6 knots. We are heading up wind since we are not getting wind from the south east. This boat sails fast in light are upwind. Its very nice!
The wind is going to get even lighter later today, and our weather routing software is telling us we will be running our engine for at least day. We will see how accurate the forecast is this time...
MILESTONES!
We have reached some major milestones today. Over 2,000 nautical miles sailed, and two weeks since we left the dock. It still seems surreal that we ACTUALLY left! So many years planning, and so many false starts. But now we are here DOING IT!
We are currently 150 miles from the equator. Unfortunately it looks like we will cross at night. We all looked forward to crossing during the day and swimming across Latitude 0.0. We may slow down a bit so we can do just that.
We are 750 miles from Nuku Hiva, Marquesas. Our current ETA is Sunday the 21st. Getting excited, I can’t believe it!
